ACT OF CONTRITION: O my God, my Redeemer, behold me here at Thy feet.  From the bottom of my heart I am sorry for all my sins, because by them I have offended Thee, Who art infinitely good.  I will die rather than offend thee again.

  1. puzzled by the association of Jesus picking up his cross (the nonviolent way of direct action in confronting the powers that be) with the photo of young recruits for the violent U.S. military.

    • Hi Roger! Great comment! I work for the VA for my day job, so I think a lot about Veterans. I look at recruits as picking up their cross, because a) it is a burden that they bear for others and b) it is a burden that has the real potential to kill them. You are right that it is not a non-violent burden, but I think it is no less worth recognition – particularly since our love of cheap oil is sending them to their deaths.
